HCSTC Seminar - Physics, Calculus, SAT, TJ, Reading, Writing and AAP Seminar By Sunshine Academy

Welcome to the 2017 Physics, Calculus, SAT, TJ, Reading, Writing and AAP Seminar at Sunshine Academy

Sunshine Academy will offer the seminar on Physics, Calculus, SAT, TJ, Reading, Writing and AAP from 2 pm to 4 pm at Hope Chinese School at Marshall High School. It is a great opportunity for you to get detailed information on how to prepare for tests, to meet a group of excellent FCPS teachers, and to get your questions answered. The following topics will be covered:

• How to help your 1st and 2nd graders become avid readers and expressive writers • The type of tests your children will take in 1st and 2nd grades and how to prepare for them • How to help your children get into the AAP (GT) Program • How to help your 3rd and 4th graders sharpen their reading, writing, and critical thinking skills • How to help your 5th and 6th graders increase their vocabulary, write creative stories and persuasive essays, and sharpen their math problem solving skills • How to help your 7th and 8th graders get into TJ • How to help your 9th, 10th and 11th graders to achieve high scores in PSAT and SAT • How to help your 9th, 10th and 11th graders to excel in physics and calculus

We offer many courses in Hope Chinese Schools. Our programs have been beneficial for all students. They have helped students become skilled readers and published writers. Many students who attended our programs have had their stories published in the Anthology of Short Stories by Young Americans. In addition, a good number of students have also become state and national winners in various prestigious math competitions. Many students who attended our AAP Prep have been accepted into the AAP programs; many students who attended the TJ Prep have been admitted into TJ; students who attended our SAT Prep have received high scores on the test; and students who have taken the physics and calculus classes have been performing exceptionally well at school. Now here are some highlights of our speakers at the seminar.

Dr. Osborne is a widely-respected teacher at Thomas Jefferson High School (TJHSST) and a published author. He holds a Ph. D. in physics and has 15 years of teaching experience. He has been teaching various courses: Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Advanced Mathematical Techniques, BC Calculus, Physical Science, Physics, AP Physics B, AP Physics C, and Differential Equations. His exceptional talent and enthusiastic teaching style reveal the true fun in physics and math.

S. is a current FCPS 12th grade AP English teacher and the English Department Chair at her school with nearly 40 years of experience. She is as an experienced PSAT/SAT prep teacher and holds master’s degrees in English Language Communications and Educational Leadership. She has taught many AP and IB level courses, including Creative Writing I, II, and III; Speech, and Journalism. She is an advisor for her school’s literary magazine. She has presented to FCPS staff development on “Writing across the Curriculum,” “Writing Strategies from Kelly Gallagher,” “Six Traits of Writing,” and “Satire.” She has extensive experience in helping students develop their reading and writing skills. She is College Board trained for AP English Language and Composition and AP English Literature and Composition. She has also served on the board of graders for College Board and the AP Language and Composition exam. She has received many awards, such as Nominee for FCPS Teacher of the Year in 2006, 2008, and 2011; Optimist International Central Fairfax Club Teacher of the Year in 2011. All students and parents enjoy her class, and many of her students have achieved excellent scores on the reading & writing sections of the SAT and in AP English Language and Composition and AP English Literature and Composition. Mrs. Sullivan is an FCPS High School English Honors teacher with over 20 years of experience. She is an advisor for Literary Magazine. She has taught Creative Writing I, II, III, and Advanced Composition. Many of her students have received national awards for their writing. She has been teaching at Sunshine for over 6 years, and many of her students have achieved perfect scores on the writing SOL.

Ms. Tuckwiller is a current FCPS AAP teacher who has earned the praise of many students and parents. She is known to put a smile on every student’s face. Her patience and enthusiasm, combined with her excellent teaching, have earned her the love and respect of all her students and their parents.
